What is HBOT?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment (HBOT) involves breathing pure oxygen at higher than atmospheric pressures, in an enclosed chamber. This process causes oxygen to be absorbed by all body fluids and by all body cells and tissues, even those with blocked or reduced blood flow. This increased flow of oxygen stimulates and restores function to damaged cells and organs.

The air we normally breathe contains 21% oxygen, 78% nitrogen, with the remaining 1% being contributed by the noble gases and carbon dioxide. The concentration of these gases is determined by the atmospheric pressure which is determined by the weather and is reduced at altitude. Unfortunately the variations in this pressure are ignored in general medical practice. Atmospheric pressure is accorded the unit 1 to represent atmospheric pressure absolute (1 ata) and this unit is divided according to the percentages of the gases in air to give their ‘partial pressures’ that is the part of the total pressure each gas is responsible for – oxygen therefore being 0.21 ata (21% of 1) and nitrogen 0.78 ata (78% of 1).

A hyperbaric chamber is needed to allow the pressure around the body to be increased. The technology is very well established and Hyperbaric Chambers are installed in centres all over the world. Historically, HBOT was only available in Medical centres and centres benefiting from an in-house doctor however, with advancements in technology and by altering the ata (Atmospheres absolute ) delivered within the chambers, Hyperbaric Oxygen Chambers are now being used all over the world in sports facilities, gyms, hotels and wellness centres; after all increased Oxygen and thus increased oxygen utilisation, is the key to recovery and health.

 Treatment times are typically between 40-60 minutes and our chambers provide the ultimate in comfort and safety.

By having a patient breathe 100 percent oxygen while in a pressurised chamber, hyperbaric oxygen therapy increases the amount of oxygen in the patient's blood (hyperoxia), this is in addition to the oxygen carried by Haemoglobin. Typically, the amount of oxygen carried and dissolved in plasma is about 0.3 ml per 100 ml of blood. At twice atmospheric pressure (2 ata) breathing 100% oxygen increases this to 3 ml oxygen in 100ml of blood. The increased concentration means that the gradient for the transport of free oxygen from blood into the tissues is increased by up to 10 times. When your blood carries this extra oxygen throughout your body, this helps fight bacteria and stimulate the release of substances called growth factors and stem cells, which promote healing. Your body's tissues need an adequate supply of oxygen to function. When tissue is injured, it requires even more oxygen to enable the repair process. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy increases the amount of oxygen your blood can carry, oxygen is a natural anti-inflammatory, with antiviral and antibiotic properties and therefore, when this additional oxygen supply reaches injured areas, the body’s natural healing process is optimised.

The Atlantis chamber is the first in our series of modular, non-medical multi-place HBOT chambers and is able to provide therapy for up to 2 people at once, comfortably.

The chamber itself is an extremely efficient room with new generation designs, 1800 mm diameters, 1.5 ATA -2 ATA pressure values, acrylic sliding doors, entertainment systems, O2, CO2, humidity, temperature sensors, and air-cooling systems.

Thanks to its PLC automated systems, you are able to record and verify sessions whilst using them automatically or manually. In addition to this, clients and or operators are able to end the session securely, safely and quickly. The Atlantis chamber also has intercom systems integrated as standard which allows you to effectively communicate with clients during the treatment.

This chamber uses an oxygen concentrator system using between 0.8 - 3 bar which ensures clients feel comfortable and can breathe with ease during the treatment.
